Activities done this week: The learner profile which was followed this week on their ongoing topic Energy’ was Thinker. Thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems and make reasoned ethical decisions.

 

Upcoming activities / HW: The learner profile which will be followed next week is Inquirer. Students will develop their natural curiosity. They will acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research and show independence in learning. They will actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

  • Students solved the Puzzle activity. They tried finding solutions to the conflict created while judging the winning team. Read aloud was done for the book ‘Be Kind’
  • Students understood Peace and what it means to be kind. They filled a template of Umbrellas to show what kindness means to them.
  • Students watched a video on the Quit India movement and a War Scene. They entered their understanding of how Peace and Conflict Feel, look and sounds in a Y-Chart.
  • Students were given insight into Kindness Project and Peace Project. 
  • Students connected the lines of inquiry with the Central Idea and Key Concepts.

  • Students did a peer correction of their holiday practice sheet.
  • Students were introduced to new topic Quadrilaterals.
  • Students were differentiated different quadrilaterals by their properties.
  • They were able to identify the Quadrilaterals and write the property by their own understanding.
  • Introduction to multiplication was done in class.

Speaking:

  • Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed their understanding of the unit energy and shared it with the class.

Grammar:

  • Recapitulation was done.

Writing: 

  • Students also wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.
  • Students came up with ideas and wrote a descriptive passage along with the teacher.

Reading: 

  • Author study was done. 
  • Students read leveled books during Guided Reading.

بچوں کو پرندوں کا نام لکھنا سکھایا گیا تاکہ اس کی مشق کریں اور بنا دیکھیں نام لکھ سکیں ۔ اس کے لئے خوبصورت انداز اختیار کیا گیا

The students enthusiastically listened to varied stories narrated by the teacher using puppets, story book illustrations , voice modulation etc followed by classroom discussions on the various events of the stories and how different stories had different plots.

 

Frayer’s model activity -Sorting Story Elements

The students selected stories of their choice , identified the characters, setting, problem and solution in the stories and then illustrated by organizing the data in a frayer’s model.

Concept of character sketch

The students inferred the concept of character sketch . They had a classroom discussion and brainstormed the inside characteristics( thoughts and feelings such as kind , helpful, scared, brave etc.) based on their understanding of actions taken by varied characters in varied situations and also listed the outside characteristics such as tall, fat, shirt hair, blue dress etc.( characteristics that can be seen with the eyes) of the given story characters on a chart.

The students were engaged in recapitulation of the concept of shapes and their properties, numbers 1 to 99, and comparison of numbers ( 1-50 ) , data handling of tally marks and creating color patterns.

Recapitulation

The students recapitulated all the cvc words using varied strategies.

Sight words reading.

Introduction of Articles a and an.

First the students learnt the difference between a consonant and a vowel. They then sorted out words beginning with consonant and vowels accordingly.

Then the students inferred and  defined articles in their notebooks i.e Article ‘a’ is used before a consonant and ‘an’ is used before a vowel.

  • Students differentiated between goods, producer, supply, demand, consumer and services and wrote the definitions with examples
  • Students learnt about the relationship between supply and demand and how it affects the price.
  • Students did a group activity “The Market” where in they enacted as producers and consumers by displaying various stalls for buying and selling of products. Through this activity they explained the relationship of price with the demand and supply ratio.

The students enthusiastically listened to varied stories narrated by the teacher using puppets, story book illustrations , voice modulation etc followed by classroom discussions on the various events of the stories and how different stories had different plots.

Sorting Story Elements

Students picked out random cutouts of various pictures of the story elements, identified it as character, setting, problem or solution and pasted the same on a chart accordingly. They also discussed the importance of story elements that are like puzzle pieces and the story would not be complete without all the story elements.

The students listened to a story and identified all the four story elements in it and listed them down in a story elements organizer in a follow up worksheet.

Shapes Around Us

Students  observed objects collected from their surroundings and identified the related shapes by keeping in mind their properties.The students  then sorted and pasted the objects according to their shapes on a chart display. This activity is a week long activity and the students were encouraged to hunt varied shapes in their surroundings and paste it on the chart.

Introduction of the concept of comparison of numbers.

The students matched the objects (one to one ) of the given groups in a worksheet , counted the number of objects in each group , compared the two groups and recognised the bigger group there by inferring the concept of comparison of numbers.

Students  recapitulated the previous class learning of three letter words followed by spelling , reading and writing three letters cvc words of ‘ u ‘ vowel i.e ‘up’ , ‘ub’ , ‘un’’ , ‘ut’  words in their notebooks. They also related the words to their meanings through illustrations and flash cards.

Activities done this week: Students recapitulated the seasons. They listed down the food items, types of clothes and weather related to the students.

 

  • We have started our new unit “ plants and animals”.
  • Students listened to the story “grandma and the mischievous boys” This story had characters including fruits. The kids were able to recollect the story and the characters. They were able to recognize and state them as fruits.
