Weekly lesson report (No.): 14                Date: 13-9-19 to 14-9-19      Class: PP2 A                                               

 

Subject: Learner Profile   : The learner profiles that we focused on are inquirer and knowledgeable as we entered  into the unit -Stories . The students inquired about how the stories give us varied information and make us knowledgeable and a thinker.

Unit-  Stories

 Central idea:  Stories inform us, engage our feelings and can be shared in many ways.

 Lines of inquiry

  3. Feeling and imagination stories evoke.

 

Activities done this week: 

Tuning in activity

Think and Tell

The students were shown varied pictures related to random stories. (They were not informed that the pictures were from different stories)

First they identified the pictures and mounted the same on chart paper to further observe and use their thinking skills to connect the various pictures to one common factor.

The students had a brainstorming session along with teacher’s  provocative questions where in they concluded that the various pictures were all connected to stories. The activity helped to activate their prior knowledge and enhance their observation skills and thinking skills.

 

Story Session

The students listened to a short story narrated by the teacher using voice modulation followed by a classroom discussion on how they felt about the different situations in the story and if anything of that sort had happened in their real life so as to connect with the story character and plot.

Activities done this week: 

Number identification activity

The students were able to make random numbers , read numbers and then write numbers using number cards.

Shapes

The mathematical concept of Shapes was introduced this week. The students identified and named the 2d shapes.(Square,rectangle,circle, triangle, oval, diamond, star, heart and hexagon).

.Also observed the surroundings and recognized the various shapes found in the surroundings.

Drawing and naming the shapes

The students drew and labelled the 2d shapes in their notebooks.

Activities done this week 

Spell, Read and Write 

Students  recapitulated the previous class learning of three letter words followed by spelling , reading and writing three letters cvc words of ‘ o ‘ vowel i.e ‘og’ , ‘ob’ , ‘ot’  words in their notebooks. They also related the words to their meanings through illustrations and flash cards.

Sight words reading.

Activities done this week: حروف تہجی الف سے ژ تک لکھا گیا اور چند تصاویر کو دیکھ کر ان کے نام کا پہلا حرف لکھا گیا۔

Upcoming activities/ HW: حروف تہجی کو الف سے ژ تک لکھیے , تصاویر کو دیکھ کر ان کا پہلا حرف لکھیے اور ان تمام چیزوں کو یاد کرئیے۔

Subject: Learner Profile   : The learner profiles that we focused on are principled and thinker as we explored the different ways to take care of sense organs. They also inquired about how the sense organs get damaged if not taken care of .  We also focused on being reflective as the students were involved in writing their assessments.

Activities done this week: 

Recapitulation

The students were involved in a thorough recapitulation of all the three lines of inquiry through classroom discussions ,worksheets and activities.

 

Formative Assessment  was conducted on the third line of inquiry where the students identified the harmful actions for our sense organs and the beneficial actions for our sense organs.

 

Summative Assessment was conducted on Friday. The students circled the senses and the sense organs used in a given scenario.

Subject: Math

Activities done this week: 

Creating ice cream scoop colour patterns (hands on activity)

The students were given colour cut outs of ice cream scoops and they created varied colour patterns by pasting the same on ice cream cones.

Number identification activity

The students were able to make random numbers , read numbers and then write numbers using number cards.

Extending patterns activity sheet

The students recognized a pattern in a given arrangement and extended it further accordingly there by enhancing their logical thinking skills.

Activities done this week: حروف تہجی کے تمام حروف کو اکشن کے ساتھ پڑھنا سکھا اور حروف تہجی کے حروف ر ڑ ز ژ کا اعادہ کیا اور ان سے آنے والی تصاویر کے ناموں کو جانا ساتھ ساتھ حروف س اور ش کا تعارف کیا گیا اور اس سے آنے والی چند اشیاء کے ناموں کو جانا اور ان کی تصاویر کو دیکھا۔

Upcoming activities/ HW: تصاویر کو پہچان کر ان کے پہلے حرف پر دائرہ لگائیے اور اسی حرف کو دی گئی جگہ میں لکھئیے حروف کو پڑھ کر ان کے بعد آنے والے حرف پر دائرہ لگائیے اور حرف س ش کو مشق کرتے ہوئے دی گئی جگہ میں لکھئیے۔

They also inquired about how the sense organs get damaged if not taken care of .

Taking care of our senses

The students were involved in provocative classroom discussions on how the sense organs may get damaged due to various reasons such as 

  • The ears may get damaged by listening to loud music,loud crackers,noise pollution etc, 
  • The eyes get damaged due to uv rays, watching tv closely,reading in low light , excess use of laptops and phones etc.
  • The nose may get damaged if sharp objects are put in, inhaling smoke, not being careful while playing cricket ,ball etc.
  • The tongue may get damaged due to drinking hot drinks, or eating hot and spicy food, not cleaning the tongue and the mouth regularly etc.

The students brainstormed different ways to take care of the sense organs and illustrated the same by drawing and pasting in follow up worksheets.

The students also drew and labelled the 5 sense organs in a worksheet.

Understanding patterns

The students inferred the concept of patterns as arrangements of things that repeat in a logical way and can be made with colors,shapes, objects, images and numbers. They also observed and reflected on their surroundings and identified patterns around them such as the zebra crossing on roads, the yellow and black coloured dividers,zebra stripes,tiger stripes, etc.

They wrote the definition of patterns in their notebooks.

 

Recognizing patterns activity sheet

The students used their logical thinking skills and recognised logical colour patterns from the given patterns in an activity sheet.

 

Extending patterns activity

The students observed the varied given colour patterns and used their logical thinking skills to extend the given colour patterns in a worksheet.

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: Make a color pattern of your own using objects from your surroundings in the given sheet.

Activities done this week 

Reading simple phrases activity

Students read simple phrases using only ‘e’ and ‘a’ vowel cvc words along with a, the ,in, on etc. The teacher  read the phrases ,then the students read together and then they read individually as peer reading.

Spell, Read and Write 

Students  recapitulated the previous class learning of three letter words followed by spelling , reading and writing three letters cvc words of ‘ i ‘ vowel i.e ‘ib’ , ‘id’ , ‘ix’ , ‘ig’ words in their notebooks. They also related the words to their meanings through illustrations and flash cards.

Subject: Learner Profile   : The learner profiles that we focused on are inquirer and thinker as we inquired into  the unit -Senses-.The students inquired about the 5 senses and the sense organs and how they help us to learn about ourselves and the environment.

We also focused on reflective learner profile . The students reflected on their learning during the assessments conducted.

Activities done this week: 

Formative Assessment on the Loi 1 was conducted.

The following activities were conducted during the week-

The students identified and differentiated various smells and tastes in a hands on activity.   

Sense of taste and smell activity

  • They  sniffed different fragrances and smells of various things from a mystery box.
  •   Identified the items using only their sense of smell. 
  • Then differentiated between the various smells such as stinky, sweet, buttery, etc
  • They  tasted various eatables from a mystery box. 
  • Identified the food items using only their sense of taste. 
  • Then differentiate between the various tastes such as salty, sweet, spicy, etc. 

The students were able to infer the use and importance of sense organs (nose and tongue) in their daily lives and how they help us to learn more about ourselves and our environment.

Sense of touch and feel hands on activity

The students identified and differentiated various textures in a hands on activity. 

  • .The students freely observed,  touched and felt different objects with various textures displayed on the station.
  •  Identified the various textures using only their sense of touch and feel. 
  • Then  differentiated between the various textures such as rough, smooth, furry, etc. The students were able to infer the use and importance of sense organ (hand and skin) in their daily lives and how they help us to learn more about ourselves and our environment.  

 

Reflection Time

The hands on activity of sense of taste and texture were followed  by a reflection activity where the students listed down descriptive words for the various tastes and textures that they had brainstormed earlier and organised it in a graphical presentation in their notebooks.

 

Introduction to Loi 2 i.e Likes and Dislikes

  • The students were involved in a provocative and an interactive classroom discussion in which they discussed how the senses played an important role in forming our likes and dislikes.
  • They also inferred the link between the sense organs and our brain .
  • Followed by a  drawing activity where they reflected on ones likes and drew 5 sounds that sounded pleasant to them.eg: chirping of birds, the school bell ringing, the rain etc.

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: The students will be involved in analysing their likes and dislikes and the role of senses and the sense organs in framing their preferences and dislikes in the upcoming week.

 

HW: Visit a market place and observe the surroundings using the three senses( sense of taste, smell, and touch) and record the observations using illustrations in an activity sheet. ( The task is to be done with the parents help)

 

Subject: Math

Activities done this week:

 The students recapitulated their learning of numbers i.e 1 to 99. 

  • Number sequencing
  • Fill in the missing numbers
  • Identify the After and Before numbers using the number line.

Introduction – Tally Marks

The students inferred that the numerals can be illustrated in tally marks.( 1-10 )

 

Favourite Smell -Tally marks activity

  • The students first sniffed the smells of petrol, soap and flower.
  • They then divided themselves in three groups according to the smell they liked the most.
  • Counted the number of kids in each group and illustrated the information as tally marks in an activity sheet.

The activity was integrated with our ongoing loi2 i.e likes and dislikes.

 

Subject: English

Activities done this week:  

The students were engaged in spelling, reading and writing three letter cvc words of ‘e’ vowel in their notebooks.

They  also related the words to their meanings there by developing their vocabulary skills.

The students repeated and modeled the teacher there by making their learning  retain-able.

They wrote “eb” , ‘ed’ , family three letter words in their notebooks.

They also learnt to read sight words.

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: In the upcoming week the students will be spelling ,reading and writing “et” , “en”, “ep”, ‘es” family three letter words thereby enhancing the reading skills and vocabulary skills.

HW:  Learn,read ,and write three letter “e” vowel words given in the notebook.

Activities done this week: حروف تہجی کے حروف کا اعادہ کیا گیا الف سے ذ تک اور تصاویر کو پہچان کر ان کے پہلے حرف سےجوڑ ملانا سکھا اس کے علاوہ تصاویر کو پہچان کر ان کا پہلا حرف لکھا اور الف سے ذ تک تمام تر حروف کو پڑھتے ہوئے لکھا 

Upcoming activities/ HW: حروف د ڈ ذ کو پہچان کر ان سے آنے والے آشیاء کے ناموں کو پڑھتے ہوئے مشق کرئیے اور دی گئی جگہ میں لکھئیے۔
