Subject: Learner Profile            

Activities done this week: The learner profile which will be followed next week on their ongoing topic Energy’ will be Thinker. Thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.

 

Upcoming activities / HW: The learner profile attribute that was explained last week was based on their ongoing topic ‘Energy’ is Knowledgeable. Students developed and used conceptual understanding and explored knowledge across a range of disciplines. Students engaged with issues and ideas that have local and global significance. 

 

Subject: Unit Of Inquiry

TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEME – How the world works. 

Central idea:  Energy is derived from a range of resources and used in various ways.

Lines of inquiry: 

  • Forms of energy and resources.
  • Transformation of energy.
  • Various uses of energy.

Activities done this week:

  •  Students watched videos on energy transformation followed by the class discussion.
  • Students did a recapitulation of forms and sources of energy

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: Submit working models on any energy transformation on Monday       

 

Subject: Math

Activities done this week: 

Measurement

  • Students were introduced to the new topic Lines.
  • Students defined the point, line, line segment, and ray.
  • Students related the given topic with different examples in our day to day life.
  • Students also defined Different types of Lines I.e Parallel lines, Perpendicular lines, and Intersecting lines.

Upcoming activities/ HW:

Differentiate the English alphabets among different lines. Work given in C.W.

Subject: English

Speaking:

  • Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed their understanding of the unit energy and shared it with the class.

Grammar:

  • Kinds of adjectives were taught in detail. Students came up with examples for each kind of adjective.

Writing: 

  • Students also wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

Reading: 

  • Novel study done.

Activities done this week: 

Students read and wrote varnamala,vattulu,guninthalu.

Subject: Art

Activities done this week: For Craft: The students made bookmarks for literacy week.

Activities done this week: Students learned to edit and created a poster on their ongoing topic Energy.

Health screening notice:

Dear Nur-C5  Parents,

We are conducting health screening at Focus School Noor Khan Bazar Campus on 17th, 18th and 19th September 2019. Doctors from Motiwala Dental Clinic, High Sight Eye Hospital, and Jaferia Hospital will participate. The health checkup includes general health, dental and vision screening.

Literacy week notice:

Dear Parents,

We will be celebrating ‘World Literacy Week’ from 16th – 20th September 2019. In order to instill and develop the love of reading, students are asked to get a storybook from home and swap it with their peers. The books will be returned on Friday.

Subject: Learner Profile            

Activities done this week

The learner profile attribute that we emphasized last week based on their ongoing topic ‘Migration’ was Inquirer as students developed their natural curiosity. They acquired the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and show independence in learning. They actively enjoyed learning about the British migration to India and its effect; and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

 

Upcoming activities / HW:

Subject: Unit Of Inquiry

TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEME – Where we are in place and time.

 

Central idea:  Human migration is a response to challenges, risks and opportunities.

 

Lines of inquiry: 

  • The reasons why people migrate
  • Migration throughout history
  • Effects of migration on communities, cultures and individual.

 

Activities done this week: 

 

  • Students gained an understanding of the causes and effects of brain drain. 
  • Students were given articles based on Brain drain and they did jigsaw reading on the same.
  • Students were given one topic each which they discussed in their base group. This was followed by a class discussion.

 

Upcoming activities/ HW:  Do an inquiry on the causes and effects of Brain Drain. List down 10 pros and cons of Brain Drain.

Subject: Math

Activities done this week: 

  • Students were able to define the meaning of rounding of numbers by giving example.
  • Students were able to understand the topic by the poem of Rounding numbers.
  • Students were able to round the numbers to nearest 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s.
  • Students were able to solve Higher Order thinking questions given in class.

Activities done this week:  

Speaking:

Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed stories of family members who migrated to or from India. A debate was conducted in class. Students spoke for OR against the topic ‘Should uniforms be mandatory in school’

 

Grammar:

Noun was introduced and discussed in detail. Students came up with examples for each type of noun.

 

Writing: Students wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

 

Guided Reading: Students understood in detail, the strategy of reasoning. They did various activities in identifying the causes and effects in a story.  

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: FA will be conducted in grammar topics taught in class. A spell drill will be conducted next week. Come prepared with the words given in previous spell lists.

Activities done this week:  

  • کہانی ” نادان کچھوا ”  کی بلند خوانی کی گئی اور اس کے مشکل الفاظ کے معنی لکھوائے تاکہ کہانی اچھی طرح سمجھ میں آسکے . طلباء کو  IRead , We Read , You Read کیActivity کے ذریعہ اچھی طرح بلند خوانی کرواکر ہر ایک سے سنا گیا ۔ کہانی کے تمام پیراگراف پڑھے جا چکے ہیں ۔ والدین اپنے بچوں سے کہانی پڑھواکر دیکھیں ۔ 
  • ایک سے ۵۰ تک گنتی لکھیں گے اور اس کی بلند خوانی کی گئی اور کاپی میں لکھوایا گیا 
  • اسم کی تعریف بتایا گیا   اور “Homework میں نادان کچھوا ” والی کہانی سے ” اسم کو نکال کر اپنی کاپی لکھنے کو کہا گیا

Activities done this week:  For Art: Students done their Assessment for their 1st Inquiry (pencil shading)

For Craft: Students made the wall hanging with ice sticks.

Subject: Music

Activities done this week:  children will learnning about composition they will be doing  group activitie they will write a song and they will do the tune and sing.

Subject: ICT

Activities done this week: Students learnt to login to Typing cat (https://thetypingcat.com/)  and started exploring typing games to improve typing skills.

 

Subject: P.E-

Activities done this week: basic warm up hula hoop play, ( students will increase their speed strength and changing of direction from one place to another. by playing hula hoop activity )

 

Subject: Library

Activities done this week:Teacher read the story to the students followed by the activity 5 fingers retelling. In which students understand the story’s Character,Setting,Problem,Events and solution on 5 fingers.

Upcoming: A Parent Orientation is organised in school on Saturday, 20 July 2019. This will be a 2 hour session from 1:30PM – 3:30PM and will include strategies and tips on parental involvement and interactive session on inquiry in Unit, Math and English. 

Your attendance is important and will be marked for, so please ensure that you are present on the scheduled time. Kindly refrain from getting children.
