Subject: Learner Profile            

Activities done this week:

The learner profile attribute that was explained this week for the unit was being INQUIRERS & THINKERS.  It was great to see the children being inquirers putting on their thinking caps by understanding the relationship between location and settlement, inquiring and brainstorming about it.

  • Students were introduced to the topic how geography affects the earth. They watched videos on Latitudes and Longitudes and played a game “Circle of Latitude on the floor” where in the children took turns to identify the latitudes on the circle.

  • Students learnt about Longitudes and Latitudes and identified the Equator, Tropic of cancer, Tropic of capricorn, Artic circle and Antartic circle through map pointing

Next week the students will assess themselves for FA-2 and move ahead with LOI-3  Impact of human interactions on the physical environment where they will learn about the effects and causes of pollution, deforestation and man made disasters

  • Students  read and wrote sentences and choose the correct options depending upon the presence of “can, could, may, might, should,would” in the sentence.
  • Students  read the story at an appropriate level,independently,confidently and with good understanding to find out the modal verbs and wrote in their guided reading notebook.

1.We will be celebrating WORLD LITERACY WEEK from 16th – 20th September 2019.In order to instill and develop the love of reading, students are asked to get a storybook from home and swap it with their peers. The books will be return on Friday.

 

2.We are conducting a health screening at Focus School Noor Khan Bazar campus on17th,18th and 19th September 2019.Doctors from Motiwala dental clinic ,high sight eye hospital and Jaferia  Hospital will participate . The health checkup includes a general health ,dental and vision screening.

  • Students carried out shared reading in groups to make connection between climate, population, flora and fauna of different landforms – Oceans & Rivers, Mountains & Volcanoes, Forest, Deserts and Arctic & Tundra region and completed the inquiry wheel (definition, climate, occupation and flora & fauna)
  • Students did a group presentation, gathered information and wrote about human settlements in different land forms ( occupation, flora and fauna, climate etc.)
  • Students watched the continent and ocean song and did the map pointing activity where in they marked the 7 continents and 5 oceans on the map

  • Students learnt to locate an object by using terms vertical and horizontals on a grid through Think Pair Share (Thinking Routine). Students did a map skills activity where they found the location of different items on the grid. By this they built their understanding of the grid and they were introduced to latitudes and longitudes

 

Upcoming activities/ HW:

For the next week students will learn the map pointing of 7 continents and 5 oceans and complete the table landforms for relationship between location and settlement. The students will also prepare for LOI-2

  • Students identified odd and even numbers and understood the concept by doing an activity in which they wrote their parents phone numbers and checked if it is odd or even number.
  • Students recalled subtraction and learned vocabulary terms used for subtraction.

Activities done this week:

This week the students were engaged as “Inquirers” as they learned more about different landforms and also identified different landforms on map thus portraying “Inquirer” and “thinker” learner profiles.

 

Upcoming activities / HW:

Encourage children to be “reflective” and reflect on their learning and know where they need to improve. Kids must know the value of being “principled” that is to act with integrity and honesty as they take responsibility for their actions.   • Students did a Frayer’s model on one of the landforms to understand the concept of landform through definition, characteristics, example and sketch.

  • Students assessed themselves in the first line of inquiry as FA1
  • Students did a shared reading for their second line of inquiry- The relationship between location and settlement. They did a shared reading for topics-( Oceans & Rivers, Deserts, Arctic & Tundra, Mountains & Volcanoes, Forests) and identified the definition, climate type, flora and fauna and occupation.

  • Students wrote the definition of modal verbs. They also wrote about the different types of modal verbs which are used frequently
  • Students wrote the different modal verbs and their types along with examples.
  • Students played a Ludo game for irregular verbs. They changed the tense of the listed verbs in order to move ahead in the game.
  • Students assessed themselves in verb tenses.

This week the learner profile attributes the students focused is “Inquirers”. The students showed interest in different land forms of the earth. They were excited to learn about the planets, oceans and continents. They also learnt the “ Land form rap song” the link of which is uploaded below.  This week students displayed learner profile qualities of “Inquirers”. Students developed natural curiosity for the topic Land forms. They enjoyed active learning and had fun doing the activities.

 The  LEARNER PROFILE ATTRIBUTE that we will be focusing next week is being “Inquirers” as we move ahead with the topic Land forms and settlements. The students will do break up of central idea and start with the vocabulary and geographical terms.

Activities done this week

 This week students displayed learner profile qualities of “Reflective” and “courageous”. They did a reflection of arts about what they have learnt and understood till now. They reflected their understanding of the unit and were courageous to present their final presentation for the unit in their choice of arts as summative assessment.

The  LEARNER PROFILE ATTRIBUTE that we will be focusing next week is being “Inquirers” as we move ahead by introducing the topic Land forms and settlements. The students will do break up of central idea and start with the first LOI – Variability of physical geography around the world

  • Students created mind maps with given keywords relating to famous artists (Picasso, Matisse, M.F Hussain) thus reflecting on the knowledge gathered in LOI-3
  • Students recalled all the activities done during the unit and identified the most enjoyable and the most difficult part of the unit on the reflection sheet
  • Students presented their creativity through their choice of art in summative assessment and conveyed a strong message through their choice of art form
  • Students synthesized new unit “Land forms and Settlements” and  took down Theme, Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry and concepts in their notebooks
  • Students learnt about the different forms of storytelling through Guest Lecture. They listened to short stories through different techniques e.g puppet show, music etc during guest lectures and try out few techniques in groups

                         Draw the solar system and mark your planet. Next week students will do break up of central idea and learn about variability of earth’s physical geography around the world.

  • Students took down the Biography of all three artists. They were able to draw out the similarities and differences between the three artists. Henri Matisse introduced the world to a new type of art called “Fauvism” meaning Wild beast which consisted of paper cuts and shaped.  Pablo Picasso gave world the concept of “Cubism” where in he made portraits of people through shapes and different figures. M.F.Hussain did not follow any particular style of painting. He rather painted Indian themes, historic figures and religious paintings.
  • Students discussed their findings and shared their knowledge about the three artists with each other. They recapitulated what all they have learnt for the week to prepare for the coming FA3 and SA

                 The learner profile  we learnt this week was INQUIRER and THINKER. The LEARNER PROFILE ATTRIBUTE inquirers was explained this week. Being little inquirers children gained more knowledge about topic Arts. They showed interest and were keen to learn more about the topic. They posed different questions and cited examples.

It was  great pleasure to see the  students enjoying the activities in class. The  LEARNER PROFILE ATTRIBUTE that we will be focusing next week is being inquirers as we move ahead with the topic and children become more keen to learn about  ARTS. Thank you!

Students analysed the arts theme and identified different ways to express themselves. They  recollected and identified the different ways to express themselves (rally robin) in pairs. They did breakup of central idea by identifying  the key words in the CI and finding out their synonyms.



Upcoming activities/ HW: Students will find out the vocabulary of different forms of arts

Activities done this week:  

Students pre-assessed and completed given task sheet and took  reading assessment.

 

Grammar:

Students defined punctuation with examples in their notebooks and wrote down the different punctuation marks. They  related MINTS strategy to use capital letters .Students read the sentences and identified uses of correct punctuation marks.
