Activities done this week          

The learner profile attribute that was explained this week based on their ongoing topic ‘Migration’ was Knowledgeable. Students developed and used conceptual understanding and explore knowledge across a range of disciplines. Students engaged with issues and ideas that have local and global significance. After gaining an understanding of Migration throughout history, students also Reflected on the positive and negative aspects of Migration.

The learner profile attribute that we will emphasize next week based on their ongoing topic ‘Migration’ will be Inquirer as students developed their natural curiosity. They will acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and show independence in learning. They will actively enjoy learning about the British migration to India and its effect; and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

Central idea:  Human migration is a response to challenges, risks and opportunities.

Activities done this week:

 

  • Students watched videos of British conquering and colonizing India. They did an inquiry on major events that led India gain its freedom.
  • Students gained an understanding of Geographic Coordinate Systems and watched videos on the same. They understood about the imaginary lines – Latitudes and Longitudes and the importance of Equator and Prime Meridian.
  • Map pointing was done. Students identified parts of India that was under the British Raj and gained an understanding of the important seaports involved in the British migration to India. 

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: Based on the topic assigned, do an inquiry based on the following questions – 

  1. When did the event start ?
  2. Why did the event take place? (What caused the event to happen?)
  3. What were the effects of the event?
  4. Who were involved?

 

Subject: Math

Activities done this week:

  • Students defined data handling in their own way and gave examples.
  • Students had a better understanding of the topic by watching the video.

  • Students were shown ways of collecting data.
  • Students conducted a survey on dàta handling.
  • Students moved around the school and learned to collect data and were able to present in the form of pictographs and tally marks.

Upcoming activities:

           Worksheet on data handling given to the students. Students will  estimate and round the given values.

Activities done this week:  

Speaking:

Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed stories of family members who migrated to or from India.

Grammar:

Noun was introduced and discussed in detail. Students came up with examples for each type of noun.

Writing: Students wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

Guided Reading: Students were introduced to the strategy of reasoning. They gained an understanding that Cause and Effect add meaning to stories and make them complete.  

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: A spell drill will be conducted next week. Come prepared with the words given in previous spell lists.

  • FA-1 was conducted. Students listed out the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats involved in migration. 
  • Students identified the positive, negative and interesting points about migration.
  • Second line of inquiry was introduced. Students understood the struggle for freedom and spoke about a few freedom fighters.
  • Students watched videos related to struggle for freedom to gain a better understanding of the topic.

 

Upcoming activities/ HW:  Inquire and list down at least 10 freedom fighters and do an inquiry on any 2.

  • Students were able to find the predecessor and successor of a number.
  • Students were also able to create largest and smallest  number.
  • Students were able to compare the place values with both Number Systems.
  • Students wrote their Assessment in their topic Number system.
  • An introduction to Data analysis was done in class.
  • Students came out with many ways on how data handling is used in day to day life

  • Students gained an understanding of types of migrations and wrote them in their notebooks. 
  • A quiz was conducted on types of migration. Students watched videos on various causes of migration and identified them as Push or Pull factors.
  • Students listed out the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats involved in migration. 

 

Upcoming activities/ HW:  Inquire and list down strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats of migration in your notebook. FA1 on Causes and Effect of migration will be conducted next Tuesday.

  • Students were able to convert number names to numerals by an activity.
  • Students also converted expanded form to Standard form.
  • Practice in creating the numbers using given digits was done.
  • Comparing and ordering of large numbers was made to practice.
  • Students enjoyed learning through Khan Academy quiz ànd were able to challenge each other.

Pre-assessment

Students saw a picture on migration and used thinking tool- ‘I see, I think and I wonder’ to present their understanding. This was followed by a suitcase activity where students understood the meaning of going on a vacation and migrating to a new country.

 

Tuning in

  • Students did a ‘human graph’ on the number of times they migrated followed by ‘Concentric circle’ activity through which they shared their experience related to migration. This was followed by a class discussion.
  • Students unpacked the central idea and connected it with the lines of inquiry. 
  • Students watched the song ‘Chitti Aayi Hai’ which was followed by ‘Word-Phrase-Sentence’ activity. 
  • Students gained knowledge about factors affecting migration

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: Based on the given questions (in the notebook), interview your classmate, family member or a neighbour.

Circle time was taken in getting to know each other better and to build speaking skills. Circle of viewpoint activity was done where students discussed about migration. Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed stories of family members who migrated to or from India.

Grammar:

Students wrote adjectives and wrote an Acrostic Poem on themselves, their peers and their family. Punctuations were recapitulated.

Writing:

Pre – assessment was taken. Students wrote a descriptive writing on the given topic.

Reading:

Pre – assessment was taken. Students read words in increasing order of difficulty.
