Activities done this week

The learner profile which was followed this week on their topic ‘Migration’ was Knowledgeable. They developed and used a conceptual understanding and explored knowledge across a range of disciplines. Students were engaged with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

 

Upcoming activities / HW:

The learner profile attribute that we will emphasize next week based on their upcoming topic, will be Inquirer as students will develop their natural curiosity. They will acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and show independence in learning. They will actively enjoy inquiring about their new topic, and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEME – Where we are in place and time.

 

Central idea:  Human migration is a response to challenges, risks and opportunities.

  • The reasons why people migrate

Activities done this week: 

  • The poem “Where the Mind Without Fear” by Rabindranath Tagore was done Which was followed by a class discussion. 
  • A recap of the unit so far was done in preparation for the upcoming Summative Assessment
  • Summative assessment was taken.
  • Student reflection was done.

  • Inquire on the effects of British Colonisation on India , and how did India got Independence.

Activities done this week: 

ADDITION:

  • Students practiced addition of numbers by arranging them in proper place value.
  • Mental math addition activities by playing Addition High Fives in the class.
  • Students had a thought full activity of addition problems in the class.
  • Students also learned to solve the addition Math problems horizontally.

Activities done this week:  

Speaking:

Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed stories of family members who migrated to or from India. 

Grammar: Indefinite articles were done. Definite articles were introduced

Reading: Task cards were done

Writing: Students wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

Guided Reading: Students understood in detail, the strategy of reasoning. They did various activities in identifying the causes and effects in a story.

पुनर्कथन करवाने  के उपरांत उससे सम्बंधित कार्य करवा गया  , जैसे_ अव्यवस्थित शब्दों को व्यवस्थित करवाया    गया,नियमानुसार स्त्रीलिंग अथवा पुल्लिंग शब्द तथा  वाक्य मे लेखन और पठन कर गया |

Activities done this week: Students started signing up to piktochart(poster editing) and learnt to create poster on the given topic by inserting pictures ,changing writing styles.

 

Subject: P.E-

Activities done this week:students did high intense warmup. 

  • shuttle run (develops speed, stamina) 
  • dodge ball play (develops body movement).

 

Subject: Library

Activities done this week: Students listened to the story from the teacher through musical instruments, body language with follow up by the activity 3- panels story book, in which students described the story in 3 panels Beginning, Middle and End with the help of drawings or text.

The learner profile which was followed this week on their ongoing topic ‘Migration’ was Thinker. Thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.

Subject: Unit Of Inquiry

Activities done this week: 

  • Students did a SWOT analysis as an immigrant in the USA.
  • Students watched videos on Indian migration. They understood the concept of voluntary/forced migration of Indians to Pakistan, how the British left traces of their life in India and how migration effects host countries.
  • Students  inquired about different and diverse perspectives involved in migration using ‘Circle of viewpoint’ activity. They wrote down the feelings, strengths and challenges from the viewpoint of the following while migrating:

The Migrant, Family of the Migrant Government of a new country and People of  the new country.

  • Formative assessment in LOI-2 and LOI-3 were taken. 
  • Guest lecture on Migration was done. Ms. Nikhat Hamed from Australia, shared her experiences and spoke about global migration and its effects. Mr. Shadab Ahmed spoke about internal migration

 

Subject: Math

Activities done this week: 

  • A pre assessment in addition was conducted to know the prior knowledge of the students.
  • Students were introduced to Addition and its properties.
  • Mental Math problems using the properties was made to practice.
  • Students learned easy tricks of Math by doubling  a number, making 10 etc.

  • اسی کہانی میں موجود ” اسم ”  کی شناخت کراتے ہوئے اسم معرفہ اور اسم نکرہ پڑھایا گیا ۔ 
  • موضوع ” ہجرت ” پر بچوں مے کہانی لکھا ۔ انشاء اللہ اس کی نوک پلک درست کرا کر اگلے ہفتہ پیش کیا جائے گا ۔

  • Students were given articles based on Brain drain and they did jigsaw reading on the same.
  • Students were given one topic each which they discussed in their base group. This was followed by a class discussion.

  • Students were able to define the meaning of rounding of numbers by giving example.
  • Students were able to understand the topic by the poem of Rounding numbers.
  • Students were able to round the numbers to nearest 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s.

Speaking:

Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed stories of family members who migrated to or from India. A debate was conducted in class. Students spoke for OR against the topic ‘Should uniforms be mandatory in school’

Grammar:

Kinds of nouns were recapitulated. Students came up with example sentences for each type of noun and labeled them.

Writing: Students wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

Guided Reading: Students understood in detail, the strategy of reasoning. They did various activities in identifying the causes and effects of a story.  

Upcoming activities/ HW: FA will be conducted in grammar topics taught in class. A spell drill will be conducted next week. Come prepared with the words given in previous spell lists.

  • کہانی ” نادان کچھوا ”  کی بلند خوانی کی گئی اور اس کے مشکل الفاظ کے معنی لکھوائے تاکہ کہانی اچھی طرح سمجھ میں آسکے . طلباء کو  IRead , We Read , You Read کیActivity کے ذریعہ اچھی طرح بلند خوانی کرواکر ہر ایک سے سنا گیا ۔ کہانی کے تمام پیراگراف پڑھے جا چکے ہیں ۔ والدین اپنے بچوں سے کہانی پڑھواکر دیکھیں ۔ 
  • ایک سے ۵۰ تک گنتی لکھیں گے اور اس کی بلند خوانی کی گئی اور کاپی میں لکھوایا گیا 
  • اسم کی تعریف بتایا گیا   اور “Homework میں نادان کچھوا ” والی کہانی سے ” اسم کو نکال کر اپنی کاپی لکھنے کو کہا گیا ۔

Activities done this week:Teacher read the story to the students followed by the activity 5 fingers retelling. In which students understand the story’s Character,Setting,Problem,Events and solution on 5 fingers.

Upcoming: A Parent Orientation is organised in school on Saturday, 20 July 2019. This will be a 2 hour session from 1:30PM – 3:30PM and will include strategies and tips on parental involvement and interactive session on inquiry in Unit, Math and English.
