Subject: Learner Profile   : The learner profiles that we focused on are principled and thinker as we explored the different ways to take care of sense organs. They also inquired about how the sense organs get damaged if not taken care of .  We also focused on being reflective as the students were involved in writing their assessments.

Recapitulation

The students were involved in a thorough recapitulation of all the three lines of inquiry through classroom discussions ,worksheets and activities.

 

Formative Assessment  was conducted on the third line of inquiry where the students identified the harmful actions for our sense organs and the beneficial actions for our sense organs.

Summative Assessment was conducted on Friday. The students circled the senses and the sense organs used in a given scenario.

Activities done this week: 

Creating ice cream scoop colour patterns (hands on activity)

The students were given colour cut outs of ice cream scoops and they created varied colour patterns by pasting the same on ice cream cones.

Number identification activity

The students were able to make random numbers , read numbers and then write numbers using number cards.

Extending patterns activity sheet

The students recognised a pattern in a given arrangement and extended it further accordingly there by enhancing their logical thinking skills.

Students  recapitulated the previous class learning of three letter words followed by spelling , reading and writing three letters cvc words of ‘ i ‘ vowel i.e ‘it’ , ‘im’ , ‘in’  words in their notebooks. They also related the words to their meanings through illustrations and flash cards.

This week the students were engaged as “Inquirers” as they learned more about different landforms and also identified different landforms on map thus portraying “Inquirer” and “thinker” learner profiles.

  • Students wrote the differences between (Mountains- Hills/ Ocean- Sea / Map-Globe / Hail-Snow / Lake- Pond / Island- Peninsula). They also watched a video to identify the different landforms

  • Students did a shared reading for their second line of inquiry- The relationship between location and settlement. They did a shared reading for topics-( Oceans & Rivers, Deserts, Arctic & Tundra, Mountains & Volcanoes, Forests) and identified the definition, climate type, flora and fauna and occupation.

  • Students wrote the different modal verbs and their types along with examples.
  • Students played a Ludo game for irregular verbs. They changed the tense of the listed verbs in order to move ahead in the game.

Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed their understanding of the unit, energy and shared it with the class.

Grammar:

Prefixes continued, Suffixes  were discussed. Students came up with examples for each type of prefix and suffix.

Writing: Instructional writing was recapitulated. Students also wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

 

Reading:   Novel study  continued. Students read levelled books in Guided reading and identified prefixes and suffixes.

Recapitulation

The students were involved in a thorough recapitulation of all the three lines of inquiry through classroom discussions ,worksheets and activities.

 

Formative Assessment  was conducted on the third line of inquiry where the students identified the harmful actions for our sense organs and the beneficial actions for our sense organs.

 

Summative Assessment was conducted on Friday. The students circled the senses and the sense organs used in a given scenario.

Creating ice cream scoop colour patterns (hands on activity)

The students were given colour cut outs of ice cream scoops and they created varied colour patterns by pasting the same on ice cream cones.

The students were able to make random numbers , read numbers and then write numbers using number cards.

  • Students continued with their learning about different forms of disasters.They watched the video on earthquake and discussed the following questions.1. What is an earthquake. 2. How and why earthquakes happen? 3. How are earthquakes measured? 4.. How can scientists predict earthquakes and avoid hazards.5.Precautions to be taken.
  • Students continue their learning about different forms of natural disasters through inquiry-reading and writing notes using books from the library{Blizzard, Avalanche,flood,Drought}
  • Students watched the videos to find out the differences between Hurricane, Tornado, and wrote it down in their notebooks.
  • Students were brainstormed on Reasons/causes for the disaster to happen  and answered the given questions in their notebooks .
  •  Students had a discussion on the models to be made on natural disasters(project work)

The students were involved in provocative classroom discussions on how the sense organs may get damaged due to various reasons such as
the ears may get damaged by listening to loud music,loud crackers,noise pollution etc,
The eyes get damaged due to uv rays, watching tv closely,reading in low light , excess use of laptops and phones etc.
The nose may get damaged if sharp objects are put in, inhaling smoke, not being careful while playing cricket ,ball etc.
The tongue may get damaged due to drinking hot drinks, or eating hot and spicy food, not cleaning the tongue and the mouth regularly etc.
The students brainstormed different ways to take care of the sense organs and illustrated the same by drawing and pasting in follow up worksheets.

The students were involved in provocative classroom discussions on how the sense organs may get damaged due to various reasons such as 

  • The ears may get damaged by listening to loud music,loud crackers,noise pollution etc, 
  • The eyes get damaged due to uv rays, watching tv closely,reading in low light , excess use of laptops and phones etc.
  • The nose may get damaged if sharp objects are put in, inhaling smoke, not being careful while playing cricket ,ball etc.
  • The tongue may get damaged due to drinking hot drinks, or eating hot and spicy food, not cleaning the tongue and the mouth regularly etc.

The students brainstormed different ways to take care of the sense organs and illustrated the same by drawing and pasting in follow up worksheets.

The students also drew and labelled the 5 sense organs in a worksheet.

Understanding patterns

The students inferred the concept of patterns as arrangements of things that repeat in a logical way and can be made with colors,shapes, objects, images and numbers. They also observed and reflected on their surroundings and identified patterns around them such as the zebra crossing on roads, the yellow and black coloured dividers,zebra stripes,tiger stripes, etc.

They wrote the definition of patterns in their notebooks.

Reading simple phrases activity

Students read simple phrases using only ‘e’ and ‘a’ vowel cvc words along with a, the ,in, on etc. The teacher  read the phrases ,then the students read together and then they read individually as peer reading.

Spell, Read and Write 

Students  recapitulated the previous class learning of three letter words followed by spelling , reading and writing three letters cvc words of ‘ i ‘ vowel i.e ‘ib’ , ‘id’ , ‘ix’ , ‘ig’ words in their notebooks. They also related the words to their meanings through illustrations and flash cards.
