Activities done this week: The learner profile attribute concentrated upon this week was INQUIRER as children watched several videos and read many books to inquire about art used in ancient Egypt and Ajanta Ellora. Moreover, students actively participated in classroom discussions and asked many questions. 

 

Upcoming activities / HW: Next week the learner profile attribute to be focussed will be INQUIRER and COMMUNICATORS as they would inquire and communicate their understanding of famous artists and unique qualities of their artwork. If any action of your child portrays any of the above-mentioned learner profiles please drop in an email with relevant photographs.

  • defined different sub art forms (e.g. Jazz music, illustration etc) during pass the ball activity.
  • evaluated themselves on how much they know about how communities express themselves in FA2.

This week the students 

  • identified the different rules that apply when a singular noun is changed to the plural noun 
  • identified rules to use verbs like “is, are, this, these, that, those” along with singular/plural nouns

Reading and Writing

Students changed given singular noun in a sentence to plural referring to the rules. They read and wrote different sentences using appropriate verbs with singular/plural nouns. Children took an assessment on collective nouns.

Students read about different forms of art in detail within groups and shared their findings with the other groups. They differentiated and sorted the different forms of communication in different communities through a mindmap discussion in class. ( Calligraphy, music, drama, painting, drawing & dance). They also watched videos on different forms of arts expressed by communities.

Students will do an inquiry on different forms of dance styles in India and list names of structures which have art carvings present in India and all over the world

  • Students were introduced to predecessor and successor of 4 digit numbers.
  • The assessment was taken in place values, base 10, expanded to standard form and vice versa.

Students did punctuations to assess themselves for FA-1. Students recapitulated Nouns along with common and proper nouns. They also assessed themselves by differentiating between proper nouns and common nouns. They were introduced to collective nouns and watched a video on collective nouns.

Students did visualization of a story and illustrated on paper. Students are doing a daily morning reading and identifying punctuations and nouns.

Students sorted out pictures of the different forms of art and pasted on the chart. They compared the similarities & differences between Visual art and performance art on a Venn Diagram. They created mind map different forms of art in detail. Children also compared and contrasted between different forms of art on a Venn diagram. They also identified the concept of perspective by illustrating a story in the form of a storyboard.

  • Students  inquired about different and diverse perspectives involved in migration using ‘Circle of viewpoint’ activity. They wrote down the feelings, strengths and challenges from the viewpoint of the following while migrating:The Migrant, Family of the Migrant Government of a new country and People of  the new country.
  • Formative assessment in LOI-2 and LOI-3 were taken. 
  • Guest lecture on Migration was done. Ms. Nikhat Hamed from Australia, shared her experiences and spoke about global migration and its effects. Mr. Shadab Ahmed spoke about internal migration.

Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed stories of family members who migrated to or from India. A debate was conducted in class. Students spoke for OR against the topic ‘Should uniforms be mandatory in school’

Writing: Students wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

Activities done this week:The LEARNER PROFILE ATTRIBUTE that was explained this week for their unit ROLE MODEL was being an INQUIRER & THINKER. It means to do research to get new ideas and scratch their heads about different qualities that their role model should possess. It was great to see the children being little inquirers putting on their thinking caps by identifying the different qualities about their Role model, and also trying to understand and absorb the new information gathered.

The LEARNER PROFILE ATTRIBUTE that was explained this week for their unit ROLE MODEL was being OPEN-MINDED. It means that we are willing to try new things or to hear and consider new ideas. An example of an open minded person is one who listens to their opponent in a debate to see if the information makes sense to reflect and change our mind. It was great to see the children being REFLECTIVE putting on their thinking caps by identifying the different traits of leader in themselves and also trying to be open-minded and changing their views and adapt new traits which can bring out the best in them.

                 The learner profile  we learnt this week was INQUIRER and THINKER. Being an Inquirer helps us to indulge deeper into the subject and acquire the necessary skills to conduct inquiry and research. The students put on their thinking caps and brought out the creative side. They were fascinated by the comparison between two different communities as  to how art keeps the cultures alive.

  • Students created a drawing of their choice and exchanged their art piece with their partner. Each student then identified what their friend was trying to convey through their art and how their art was different from that of their friend.

Students enjoyed reciting rhymes related to parts of the face.

They learnt a new rhymes for washing their hands. This rhyme is always recited before going for snack time. Below are the lyrics:

The learner profile attribute that we emphasized last week based on their ongoing topic ‘Migration’ was Inquirer as students developed their natural curiosity. They acquired the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and show independence in learning. They actively enjoyed learning about the British migration to India and its effect, and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

Speaking:

Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students. Students discussed stories of family members who migrated to or from India. A debate was conducted in class. Students spoke for OR against the topic ‘Should uniforms be mandatory in school’

Grammar:

Kinds of nouns were discussed, students played a quiz on KhanAcademy. Students came up with example sentences for each type of noun and labeled the kinds of nouns.

Reading: Novel study was done.

Writing: Students wrote a journal entry based on the ongoing unit. They were asked to add detail to their writing to make it more meaningful.

Guided Reading: Students understood in detail, the strategy of reasoning. They did various activities in identifying the causes and effects in a story.  

Upcoming activities/ HW: FA will be conducted in grammar topics taught in class. A spell drill will be conducted next week. Come prepared with the words given in previous spell lists.

Activities done this week:  

Sense of sight hands-on activity.

  • The students observed various objects with various physical attributes( such as colourful, dull, glittery, big, small, etc.) displayed in a particular sequence.
  • Then they were blindfolded and an object or two were removed from the display.
  • The students then identified the missing objects and used descriptive words related to the objects.
  • The activity enhanced their visual discrimination, observational skills, thinking skills and also developed their sense of sight-related vocabulary.
  • The students also concluded ( after a provocative classroom discussion) that the eye took photographs of objects and sent it to the brain and it gets saved there as a memory.
  • They then listed the related sense of sight descriptive words on a graphical illustration as a follow-up activity.

 

Sense of hearing -hands-on activity.

  • The students were involved in a lively classroom discussion and listed the various sounds heard at different times of the day( morning, night, evening) and also in different environments.
  • They then heard different sounds using a youtube video to enhance their listening skills, thinking skills and analytical skills and identified the related objects to their sounds using only the sense of hearing.
  • Followed by listing down descriptive words related to sense of sight in a graphical presentation in the notebooks.
  • The students inferred the importance of ears and the sense of hearing through this activity.

  • Students carried out break up of the central idea into simpler words to comprehend it easily and noted down in their notebooks.
  • Students were synthesized vocabulary used in unit with ease by drafting unit vocabulary. 
  • They interpreted and identified emotional characteristics expressed in a story.
  • Children articulated their understanding of emotions by preparing an outline of self with appropriate emotions they experienced at the moment.

  • They also analyzed personality traits by playing 2 truths and 1 lie game.

  • Students recap l blends.
  • Spell and build words with r blends as they played several team games and cut and pasted the r blends on the correct pictures.

Reading and Writing: 

  • Spell drill of sight words was done and they wrote new sight words in their notebooks.
  • Wrote words with R blends in their notebooks.
  • They read the phrases and note down in their notebooks.

 

Upcoming activities/ HW: Complete the “r” blends worksheet.

Spell drill on Tuesday (23/7/19) practice new sight words.

Activities done this week: اُردو  کے ہندسے ایک سے لیکر بیس تک پڑھتے ہوئے لکھگ گیا اور کلاس میں موجد اشیاء کے ذریعے ایک سے بیس تک گنتی کی گئی۔

اعراب زبر , زیر اور پیش کا اعادہ ان کی آوازوں کو پڑھتے ہوئے کیا گیا اور حروف تہجی کے حروف الف سے ض تک کے حروف پر اعراب زبر کو لگا کر پڑھتے ہوئے لکھنا سکھا۔
